Welcome to our 2021-22 School Year: Our Crew S.O.A.R.s Together!

My name is Kristin Abraham and I am lucky enough to be principal of this amazing community!

With our new theme of “Our Crew S.O.A.R.s Together!”, our entire Edgewood community will work together to help our students be the best they can be.  We will continue to model, follow, and reinforce the expectations of SOARing by being Safe, On-task, Act respectfully, and Responsible.

This year, as a district we will be using ParentSquare as our primary form of communication. You can download the ParentSquare app and receive notifications and posts from the school and your child’s classroom teacher right on your phone.  Schools will no longer be using Class Dojo.  Instead, Edgewood students will be recognized for positive behaviors by receiving SOAR tickets or positive office referrals.  SOAR tickets are given to recognize and reinforce expected behaviors throughout the day.  Positive Office Referrals are given to individuals who go above and beyond, and teachers feel they deserve to be highlighted in a special way.  Their name will be announced during morning announcements, the referral will be sent home to parents/guardians, and they will be entered in a monthly raffle for a special prize.

If you join us virtually for any meetings, we will be using Google Meet instead of Zoom.  Don’t worry, it is very easy to use - just click on the link and join.

We are welcoming new support staff in our building this year, including a part time social worker, an additional instructional support teacher, and additional math support staff.

Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 at Edgewood last year ROCKED the Smarter Balanced Assessment. We challenged them to be the best in the district and they did it!  Some highlights include 62% of last year’s 4th grade students achieving proficiency or above in mathematics and 65% in language arts!  Grade 3 students achieved higher percentages than all other schools in the district and Grade 5 percentages were well above the district averages in all subject areas and had the highest percentages in the district for our NGSS Science assessment.  We are so very proud of all of their efforts!

Thank you again, and we look forward to our first day of school on Monday, August 30th!
